Study in Australia

Requirements vary according to the institution and programme, but applicants normally need:

• Academic certificates and transcripts
• Evidence of English proficiency, such as IELTS, PTE Academic or another accepted test
• A valid passport

• La Trobe University: Melbourne and regional Victoria; popular disciplines include health sciences, nursing, business, education, psychology and biological sciences
• Western Sydney University: a multicampus university offering business, nursing, engineering, IT, social sciences and health, appealing to students seeking alternatives to central Sydney

Tuition fees depend on the institution, study level, subject and location. Medicine, dentistry, veterinary science and laboratory-based programmes are generally more expensive than business or humanities courses.

For the Student visa financial-capacity requirement, the government's current guidance refers to at least AUD 29,710 for one student's annual living costs, in addition to relevant tuition and travel expenses. Actual expenses, particularly in Sydney and Melbourne, may be higher.

Eligible graduates may apply for a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485), which can permit temporary residence, employment and further study. Eligibility and duration depend on factors including the qualification, course, age, study history and stream selected. Completing an Australian qualification does not automatically guarantee a graduate visa, employment or permanent residency.

The highest-ranked university is not automatically the best choice for every applicant. Students should compare:
